About Mr. AJ Custard, Esq.

My Story

I’m a Washington, DC based senior yoga instructor and attorney, and I love supporting people in finding their vibe and learning to move through the world at a pace that honors their nervous system, energy, and lived experience.

Originally, from The New Orleans Louisiana, I’ve been teaching yoga in DC since 2023, offering practices rooted in breath awareness, mindful movement, and the principle of svadhyaya—self‑study. My classes invite students to listen inward, make informed choices, and cultivate discernment about what feels supportive in their bodies on any given day. Rather than striving for impossible external shapes, we practice meeting the moment as it is, with curiosity and compassion.

As both a lawyer and a yoga teacher, I understand the toll of high‑pressure environments that prioritize productivity over presence. That perspective deeply informs my teaching, which centers balance, sthira sukha (steadiness and ease), agency, and sustainability. I’m especially committed to making yoga more accessible and affirming for men, people with bigger bodies, and people of color, and to creating spaces where students feel safe enough to slow down, explore sensation, and take up space without apology.

For me, yoga is not about flexibility or performance, it’s about embodiment, breath, and alignment with your own internal rhythms, so you can show up in the world with greater clarity, resilience, and ease.
